Letter: Too many Burnaby high-rises, too many concerns

This letter writer claims developments are too close to each other and will take up lots of resources.

Are there too many high-rise developments in Burnaby? This resident believes so.

The Editor:

Listening and reading about the housing issues and the changes that the provincial and federal government wants the municipalities to do, to me, is down right stupid.

I have one big concern about the high rises whether they are condos, apartments or even commercial office buildings.

All these buildings take a lot a water up into all the different lines; fire sprinklers, kitchens, bathrooms, etc.

Fire department ladders, from what I have understood, only go up 12 stories. Can you imagine trying to go down 25, 30, 45, 50 or even more flights if there is an emergency to get out of a building?

All we as home owners that have worked hard at giving our family a home to live in, and have a yard garden, are always getting told we are in a water zone not to water plants, etc., have certain days on and off.

They talk about electric vehicles; where does our electricity come from? It comes from the dams that produce out electricity. If there is something I do not know is different, I would like to know about it.

Our housing crisis is here for a reason.

We all, as the average person, need to look at our federal government for the issues that are in B.C.

This federal government that is in place is now going after everyone that has saved all their lives to be able to retire and enjoy life. The politicians will retire with a nice pension. The average person like myself be collecting a minimal OA and CPP from working for over 30 years plus.

As for all these high-rise condos, it's not about housing, it's about progress and growing areas.

Not sure how people like to be able to go to a window look out and see into the next high rise condos unit. These high-rises are way too close to each other in my opinion.

I understand at the southeast corner Nelson Avenue and Kingsway that there will be a 75-storey building going up there across from Metrotown area.

I can not believe that this is happening in this area.
