Re: Letter: These Burnaby towers are blocking my sunshine for the winter (Dec. 7, 2024)

After reading countless opinion pieces and Facebook posts, I have finally put it all together.

NIMBYs [not in my backyard] are truly looking out for us.

In a previous article, they complained about high-rise buildings blocking out the sun.

Guess what else blocks out the sun? Trees! Thank goodness they cut down hundreds of thousands of trees and put up their cookie cutter single family homes and five golf courses.

Now, we can all have access to sunlight, even though we choose to live in a place that rains for half the year.

NIMBYs do not want density, and I agree.

They make Burnaby dense enough. There is a reason why they want to preserve our historic asphalt parking lots and strip malls.

Why waste resources on missing middle housing and improving transit when the war against trees is not yet over?

Count your days, Burnaby Lake Park, Deer Lake Park, and Central Park. We will not stop until you are deforested. Then we will use the carcasses of those trees to build single family bungalows and fill them with asbestos, because there is nothing like the good old days.

Then we will turn the Westridge refineries back on and make Burnaby great again.

I just want to thank the NIMBYs again for their hard work. Without them, we would not have sunlight and would be living in the dark ages. They are a major reason why Burnaby is such a wonderful and affordable place to live.

I have been working full time since I was 20, even while attending school full time, and I hope to earn enough to move back to Burnaby in the next hundred or so years.

With love,
