Two exhibits at the Burnaby Public Library McGill are closing soon.
The first, Ashley Culver and John Stocking: Upon Close Observation, is at the McGill branch, 4595 Albert St., until Sunday.
Culver, a Burnaby artist, studies and highlights nature's intricacies - especially in fruits, vegetables and other foods. Culver plays with the ability to recognize the objects she works with, through isolation and transformation.
Stocking, who passed away in 2012, was an artist and art historian originally from Kansas City, Missouri. Stocking began teaching within the University of Calgary's art history department in 1970, where he taught for 42 years.
His works showing at the library were created in the late 1960s and sold at record stores. The works show psychedelic and "Op-art" influences, using colour contrast and repetition to play visual tricks with movement.
The library is also hosting Jack Akroyd: Works from the Burnaby Art Gallery Permanent Collection until Monday.
These works are mostly from the early 1970s and present outdoor scenes of British Columbia.
