The City of Burnaby is joining cities around the world tomorrow (March 23) in turning off the lights for an hour to show that by working together, it's possible to conserve energy and take action on climate change.

Burnaby residents can participate by turning off their lights from 8: 30 to 9: 30 p.m. on Saturday night.

This year will mark the seventh annual Earth Hour event world-wide.

The campaign started in Australia in 2007, when more than 2.2 million individuals and 2,000 businesses turned out their lights for one hour, according to the Earth Hour website.

"Earth Hour asks everyone to take personal accountability for their impact on the planet and make behavioural changes to facilitate a sustainable lifestyle," according to the website.
