“This all happened like a miracle!”
That was the reaction from a Burnaby resident upon getting back a budgie that had been at large in the rain for days.
Named Ji zhua (or “Chicken feet”), the black, white and blue bird had escaped as her owner, Jason Guan, was bringing her up from an underground parkade in his townhouse building.
The bird had last been seen flying west from the Royal Oak SkyTrain station at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Guan told the NOW.
On the off chance Ji zhua might be found, he posted about the lost bird on Reddit and Facebook.
Several days later, he was contacted by a person who lives less than a kilometre from his house.
“According to the neighbor, Ji zhua just hopped on their fingers when approached,” Guan said Monday. “We went over last night and confirmed it was, indeed, Ji zhua before bringing her home to recover.”
The recent rainy weather appears to have left the bird “weak,” he said, “but she is in full-recovery mode after some well-deserved millet and diluted glucose.”
