'Lovely and amazing': Burnaby woman wins bike education volunteer appreciation award

"There is no task too small or too great for Gwen," says Hub Cycling.

A Burnaby resident has won an award honouring her volunteerism as a cycling advocate.

Non-profit Hub Cycling awarded Gwen Litchfield the volunteer appreciation award for bike education at a ceremony March 12.

Hub said Litchfield has volunteered at Hub events "for years," then began helping the bike education team last year.

"From bike washing to survey data input and even acting as an instructor's assistant for our StreetWise Cycling Education Centre, there is no task too small or too great for Gwen," Hub said in an emailed statement to the NOW.

The non-profit noted Litchfield even received her own positive reviews: "Volunteer Ms. Gwen is lovely and amazing," said one bike learner.

"Overall the course was a great refresher, Bea and Gwen were great at explaining everything and answered everyone’s questions," said another.

Last year, the City of Burnaby won Hub's "Biggest Leap" award for getting more people cycling.
