A 20-year-old man awaits sentencing after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the shooting death of an 18-year-old woman in Burnaby more than two years ago.
First responders were called to a house on Oxford Street at about 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 29, 2020, according information released at the time by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.
At the scene, they found an 18-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries, IHIT said.
She was taken to hospital but didn’t survive.
Police were tight-lipped about the case, not revealing what had caused the life-threatening injuries.
“This was an isolated incident involving individuals known to one another,” then-IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Frank Jang said.
A man was arrested in connection with the incident and then released pending further investigation.
Nearly a year later, on Nov. 19, 2021, Trevor Dominic Brown was charged with manslaughter “using a firearm” in the death of Anichka Loeffler, according to the Vancouver provincial court registry.
Brown, who was 18 years old at the time of the killing, was in Vancouver provincial court Wednesday to plead guilty to four charges related to the incident: manslaughter, unauthorized possession of a firearm, pointing a firearm and careless storage of a firearm.
Brown also pleaded guilty to two counts of assault in relation to an incident in Burnaby on Feb. 10, 2021.
Pre-sentencing reports have been ordered in the case, and Brown’s next court date is scheduled for July 12 to check on the status of the documents.
