Hiding under a blanket didn’t help a 41-year-old Coquitlam man get away with breaching a court-ordered curfew in Burnaby this week, according to police.
Just before 1 a.m. Wednesday, Burnaby Mounties were conducting patrols in the area of Edmonds Street and Canada Way when they spotted a van without taillights, according to an email from Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj.
Running the plates, he said the officers found out the vehicle belonged to a man with a history of break-and-enter and other property crime convictions.
A traffic stop revealed two passengers in the backseat were not wearing seatbelts, and one of them was trying to hide under a blanket.
Kalanj said he gave the officers a fake name but was later identified and found to be breaching a court-ordered curfew.
The man was arrested and taken to Burnaby cells.
Jeran Kane Lenzing now faces one charge of breaching a conditional sentence order, according to the Vancouver provincial court registry.
Lenzing was handed a 10-month conditional sentence and 12 months of probation in October after pleading guilty to break-ins in Burnaby and Coquitlam on Oct. 27, 2022 and March 25, 2024, respectively.
His CSO conditions included a 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.
Lenzing was scheduled to appear in Vancouver provincial court Thursday.
