A months' long police investigation into break-ins at high-end homes under construction in Burnaby, Coquitlam and West Vancouver has led to a raft of charges against a 44-year-old Lower Mainland man.
Burnaby RCMP launched an investigation in October 2022 after reports several swanky homes under construction had been targeted by theft between September 2022 and February 2023, according to a police news release in March 2023.
Last February, police raided three properties, two in the Lower Mainland and one north of Creston, B.C., and discovered two shipping containers packed "floor to ceiling" with stolen goods, including a $25,000 fridge and other high-end appliances, home finishings and fixtures, the March release said.
A total of 27 charges have now been approved against Chad Hubick in relation to the investigation.
He faces seven counts of breaking and entering, 19 counts of possessing stolen property and one count of possessing drugs for the purpose of traffic.
"This was a dynamic investigation involving several locations and a huge volume of stolen goods," Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in a news release Friday.
Kalanj said investigators worked diligently to secure the charges and reunite many valuable stolen items with the victims.
Hubick is currently in custody and scheduled to appear at a bail hearing on Feb. 15, according to information on Court Services Online.
