It's certainly been a year of highs and lows in Burnaby, from tragic murders that left the city in a state of grief, to political hijinks that had us shaking our heads, and good news tales that renewed our faith in the world - along with plenty of quirky odds and ends to keep things interesting.

The Burnaby NOW editorial team sat down earlier this month to debate, argue, hash, re-hash and otherwise discuss the top stories of the year and the people behind them.

While some categories had clear winners, others took a bit more consideration to come to some final conclusions.
