An altercation at Burnaby’s Lougheed Mall bus loop last year has resulted in a guilty plea and a 12-month suspended sentence in Vancouver Provincial Court.
David Jackson pleaded guilty to one count of assault following the Aug. 31, 2021 incident. Two other charges were stayed.
The male victim heard arguing at the Lougheed Mall bus loop and saw Jackson hitting another person, Judge David St. Pierre was told Thursday.
The victim told Jackson, 43, to stop and was approached aggressively as a result. The victim then attempted to get help from a bus driver. Jackson then sucker punched him.
Crown prosecutor Jeffrey La Porte told St. Pierre multiple people observed the situation with Jackson “yelling and screaming and verbally aggressive.”
The judge suggested to Jackson that he be mindful of himself and that “the next time you get amped up,” consider different choices.
The two stayed counts involved making threats to the victim and to a police officer.
