That sound you hear is the collective “whoop, whoop” of parents as they learn there will not be a second-consecutive snow day in Burnaby.
The Burnaby School District announced at 6 a.m. that all public schools are open for business today (Thursday).
This follows the closure of schools on Wednesday due to heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures that led the provincial government to actually issue a warning telling the public to stay home if at all possible. That snow day left many parents scrambling for child-care options.
The snowfall in Burnaby was less than predicted overnight Wednesday/Thursday, although heavy winds were experienced in the city.
The school district is leaving the ultimate decision to come to school in the hands of parents.
“Schools are OPEN,” read a tweet by the school district. “Please dress warmly, drive or walk with care and give yourself extra time to get there. If you feel your student can’t travel safely to school, please report their absence as you normally would.”
