A 24-year-old man charged with assaulting a Burnaby Mountie with his car while still under house arrest for a North Vancouver sexual assault has been denied bail.
Jairus-Paul Covacha Sacramento faces one count each of dangerous driving, flight from police and assaulting a police officer with his car for an incident on Royal Oak Avenue by Deer Lake Parkway on Feb. 11, according to Burnaby RCMP.
Police had set up a speed trap in the area at about 3:35 p.m., the detachment told the NOW in an emailed statement earlier this month.
One officer tried to pull over a vehicle for speeding, the statement said, but the driver allegedly fled, hitting the Mountie with the car mirror.
Police caught up with the suspect vehicle near Canada Way and Kensington Avenue and arrested the driver, according to police.
Sacramento, who has since been charged in the incident, was under house arrest at the time for a sexual assault on a North Vancouver trail on Feb. 13, 2022.
The house arrest was part of a six-month conditional sentence imposed on Sacramento this past December.
Sacramento was back in court Thursday for a bail hearing.
His bail was denied, but because of a publication ban, no information presented during the hearing, including the judge’s reasons, can be published.
Sacramento's next court date is schedule for March 7.
