Coquitlam RCMP attend the John B pub on Austin Avenue Friday night after a fight in the parking lot left a 35-year-old man dead.

A 35-year-old man is dead and two suspects are in custody after a fight outside the John B pub in Coquitlam Friday night.

According to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) which has taken charge of the case, Coquitlam RCMP responded to a report of a fight outside the pub at 1000 Austin Ave. at about 9:42 p.m.

Bystanders provided first aid and CPR to the victim, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Two men believed to have been involved in the fight were arrested and are in police custody.

“Investigators will be in the area processing the crime scene, canvassing for witnesses and collecting video evidence,” said IHIT spokesperson, Sgt. Freda Fong, in a news release.

She added police have yet to speak to several witnesses and “we are asking them to contact us as soon as possible.”

Investigators are also looking for CCTV or dashcam footage from the vicinity of the pub as well as Charland Avenue.

A patron who was at the John B told the Tri-City News the fight may have started with a “small argument” in the bathroom and then moved outside. After the incident, customers were asked to leave the pub through a back door at about 10:17 p.m.

In 2022, a man was seriously injured after being shot outside the John B.

IHIT’s Fong said the latest incident is believed to be isolated “with no ongoing risk to the public.”
