Burnaby roads are dangerous for a variety of reasons.
One is the fact that so many drivers either don’t know the rules of the road, or they just don’t follow them. That’s especially true when it comes to speeding.
Then there are the drivers who don’t take care of their vehicles.
Like the one pictured above. Burnaby RCMP Traffic Officers held a special inspection blitz earlier this week and stopped this beauty of a truck.
Most pick-up truck drivers keep their vehicles pristine, but officers found a whopping $2,577 worth of violations, leading to the truck and trailer being taken off the road for four separate reasons.
Overall, the blitz led to 17 vehicles being taken off the road for being unsafe.
In other traffic safety news, Burnaby RCMP continue to investigate a hit-and-run collision that has left a man with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
On the morning of Feb. 1, officers responded to a report of an injured man at the intersection of Marine Drive and Patterson Avenue.
The victim, a 30-year-old man, exited a transit bus, then while attempting to cross Marine Drive he was hit by a vehicle and lost consciousness. After approximately a half hour he regained consciousness in a ditch on the side of the road. He managed to call for help and is now recovering in the hospital.
The incident occurred between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m.
“This has been quite traumatic and painful for the victim,” said Cpl. Mike Kalanj of the Burnaby RCMP, in a news release. “Please come forward if you can assist in identifying the responsible party.”
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this collision or potentially have dash cam video in the area between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 or if you wish to remain anonymous contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
