BC NDP candidates Reah Arora (Burnaby East(, Paul Choi (Burnaby South-Metrotown), Raj Chouhan (Burnaby-New Westminster), Anne Kang (Burnaby Centre) and Janet Routledge (Burnaby North) are all projected to represent Burnaby in Victoria.

It appears to be a sweep for the BC NDP in Burnaby on Saturday night.

Elections BC results project incumbents Anne Kang, Raj Chouhan and Janet Routledge will all return to the legislature in Victoria.

Both running for the first time, Reah Arora and Paul Choi are projected to represent Burnaby East and Burnaby South-Metrotown respectively.

Routledge, representing Burnaby North, will be serving her fourth term while Anne Kang will be serving her third term representing Burnaby Centre.

Raj Chouhan, elected in Burnaby-New Westminster, will be serving his sixth term.

"Every campaign, I always looked at it like I was kind of the underdog, you know, like I was not taking anything for granted," Chouhan told the NOW by phone on Saturday night.

"So, same thing today. I knew I worked hard; I had a wonderful team, my volunteers, my staff, they did a fantastic job. But you never know until the final result comes out."

Chouhan said he will wait until the final results come out before planning next steps.

"Once the government has formed, then we'll prioritize how to continue to address the issues people are facing about affordable housing, affordability in general, and healthcare."

Choi, who defeated Conservative Party of BC candidate Han Lee, said he is excited to be representing the new Burnaby riding of Burnaby South-Metrotown.

"I am absolutely honoured to be elected to serve as the next MLA for Burnaby South-Metrotown," he told the NOW, adding the campaign showcased the "good work" the BC NDP has carried out for the last seven years.

"Things that I heard at doorsteps are the fact that people want to see more affordable homes, people want to see better health care, and people want to see safer communities. And so those are the three things that I'll continue to focus on going forward."

Kang said she's proud of what she's accomplished as an MLA over the past seven years, pointing to her work on funding for the expansion of Burnaby Hospital and her previous role as Minister for Advanced Education in helping international doctors be credentialed.

"I know there's so much more work to do," she explained to the NOW.

She also offered advice to her two new local colleagues, Reah Arora and Paul Choi.

"I would say, work very hard, connect with the community in different ways, through attending events, through taking meetings with their constituents, listening to everyone. Because not everybody voted for BC NDP, but there's a reason why, and we need to understand that and gain people's trust and confidence. The most important thing is to be serving your constituency."

Elections BC says the final count will be done on Oct. 26.
