A dump truck that slammed into a lamp post and hydro pole in Burnaby earlier this month was taken out of service for multiple safety violations, according to police.
Burnaby RCMP got a call just after 1 p.m. on Jan. 13 for a report of a single-vehicle crash on Boundary Road near Myrtle Street involving a dump truck, according to a police news release Thursday.
At the scene, officers found the truck had collided with a lamp post and a hydro pole, knocking them both over, the release said.
There were no injuries, but traffic and the nearby train track were affected for several hours.
The truck was towed and ordered out of service after an inspection revealed multiple safety violations.
“We are extremely lucky that nobody was hurt as a result of this incident, as the truck was travelling downhill with ineffective brakes,” Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in the release.
The driver was also ticketed for 10 violations, including failing to ensure the vehicle was in safe operating condition, failing to comply with trip inspection requirements and exceeding the axle weight of both the truck and the trailer.
“This file is a good example of why Burnaby RCMP and partners continue to focus on commercial vehicle enforcement across the Lower Mainland,” Kalanj said.
