The Burnaby North Vikings conceded a goal less than five minutes into their BC high school AAA senior boys championship match against the Argyle Pipers and could never get back on even terms.
The Vikings lost its first chance at a provincial title in 25 years, 1-0, Saturday at the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex.
Despite the quick setback, Burnaby North wrested back the run of play for much of the match but could rarely penetrate the solid Argyle defence for a quality scoring chance.
The Vikings, which won its league championship and the Fraser North zone title, finished atop its pool at the provincials and reached the final after it defeated North Delta 2-1 in Friday's semi-final.
Argyle's championship was its first since 1988, although the Pipers have finished second five times.
