Burnaby RCMP is celebrating High Risk Driving Month with tickets – lots of costly tickets.
Between May 16 and 19, local Mounties handed out 140 tickets for infractions in Burnaby, including 45 for speeding, 29 to folks not wearing seatbelts, 16 to people using cellphones, three for impaired driving and seven for running red lights.
They also issued nine tickets for driver’s licence violations and seized one fraudulent licence.
The enforcement blitz took place as part of ICBC's High Risk Driving Campaign.
Burnaby RCMP’s traffic unit set up shop at the Cariboo Park playground zone, on Gaglardi Way on the way up to SFU, on Inlet Drive at Bayview Drive, at Royal Oak and Buxton Street, along the Kingsway business corridor by Metrotown and Crystal Mall area, on Lougheed Highway at Rosser Avenue and at Willingdon Avenue at the Highway 1 onramp.
While they were there, Mounties also ticketed plenty of commercial vehicles, including two for unsecured cargo, one for failing to produce insurance, one for failing to display an N, one for an unsafe lane change and one for a defective vehicle.
Police also issued one notice and order, putting one commercial vehicle out of service.
