Police have dashcam video of collision that injured Burnaby care aide, 64

Burnaby RCMP are looking to speak to the driver of a white pickup that drove northbound on Burris Street by Canada Way just before the crash that injured 64-year-old pedestrian Maria Espedido.

Burnaby RCMP are looking to speak to the driver of a white pickup truck in the hopes they may have dashcam footage of a pedestrian-involved hit-and-run last week.

A 64-year-old woman, identified to the Burnaby NOW as local care aide Maria Espedido, was hit while walking across Canada Way by Burris Street at about 6:45 a.m. last Wednesday.

Espedido suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver did not stop to help, according to police.

Investigators have since obtained dashcam video showing the incident but have not yet been able to identify the vehicle or driver involved, according to a Burnaby RCMP news release Monday.

The detachment published a segment of the video that shows the suspect vehicle leaving the scene directly after the collision.

In an effort to get better video footage, the detachment is also looking for the driver of a white pickup truck that drove northbound on Burris Street through the intersection just before the crash.

“If this pickup truck has dashcam video, we believe it may have captured a clearer image of the suspect vehicle and we would like to speak to the driver,” Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in the release.
