Burnaby RCMP are searching for the suspect in a stabbing that sent a 53-year-old man to hospital with serious injuries, according to police.

Officers were called to a park near the 7100 block of Arcola Way at about 5:40 p.m. Monday, according to an emailed Burnaby RCMP statement.

At the scene, they located a 53-year-old man suffering from several stab wounds.

Officers performed first aid on the victim, and he was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The suspect had fled the scene before officers arrived, but police were able to identify him, a 37-year-old man, and are currently searching for him.

"All parties appear to be known to each other," Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in the statement. "Police do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public and will remain in the area as the investigation continues."
