B.C.'s police watchdog has been called in to investigate the death of a man in Burnaby this month.
Police first responded to a home in the Forest Grove area on Aug. 2 after a call from someone concerned about the wellness of a man there, according to the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) today (Aug. 22).
No one was detained at that time, according to a release today (Aug. 22).
The following day, however, police returned to the residence after a call from a woman who "raised safety concerns about a man living there."
"Officers responded at around 7:40 a.m. that day, later entering the home where they found one man in medical distress and immediately provided first aid," stated the release.
"The man was later pronounced deceased."
The IIO, which oversees all officer-related incidents that result in death or serious injury, was notified of the incident on Aug. 3 and started an investigation to determine whether police actions or inaction played a role in the man's death.
Investigators are now asking anyone with more information or video footage of the incident to call 1-855-446-8477 or visit the IIO website.
