Power outage in Burnaby affects 1,300 BC Hydro customers, shuts down Lougheed mall temporarily

A power outage in Burnaby is affecting more than 1,300 customers Jan. 17.

A power outage Wednesday afternoon shut down Lougheed mall and turned off the lights for more than 1,300 BC Hydro customers.

The outage started at 2:48 p.m. Wednesday, according to BC Hydro's website, and was caused by a tree down across BC Hydro's wires.

Power returned at 10 p.m., with crews on-site throughout the evening.

The City of Lougheed mall closed Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. due to the outage, according to the shopping centre's website, to ensure the safety of its guests and retailers.

As of 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 18, the mall was open again.

The City of Lougheed noted in an Instagram story that individual store hours may vary due to weather conditions.

Cameron Community Centre also shut down due to the power outage Wednesday.

It re-opened Thursday, Jan. 18, according to the city's Instagram.
