B.C. Premier John Horgan detailed a plan Monday to “make life easier and more affordable for renters.”
Horgan said in a news release that a re-elected BC NDP government will freeze rents to the end of 2021.
The BC NDP plan also included a re-announcement of a renters’ rebate of $400 a year. Horgan said today that the rebate would be for households earning up to $80,000 a year.
“In his first term, Horgan capped rent increases at inflation each year, saving renters an average of $333 every year,” said the news release. “A re-elected BC NDP government would pass legislation to make that cap permanent.”
The BC NDP campaigned in 2017 on the $400 rebate, but that hasn’t materialized yet.
