In support of the Alzheimer Society of B.C., the Burnaby and New West IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s Committee is hosting a pub night fundraiser at Burnaby’s Admiral Pub on Friday, April 28.
Every year, in the days leading up to their Walk for Alzheimer’s Fundraiser in May, the committee aims to host a social fundraiser to kick off its fundraising, said Cathy Lin, event organizer and Burnaby co-chair of the committee.
According to Lin, the public event is a chance to engage with companies and community members within Burnaby and New Westminster.
“Many local businesses support us by donating their products or services for our Silent Auction, which happens at our Pub Night event,” Lin said. “The event draws like-minded and like-valued people whose lives may have been touched by dementia, and is a celebration of our collective fight to make the world a more dementia-friendly place.”
Hosting the fundraiser, she added, helps strengthen connections with each other and helps raise awareness.
Priced at $30, the event is open to public. Lin said she hopes everyone will come together for a special night out and gain greater understanding about dementia, as well as improved access to the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s resources.
A meal and and a glass of beer,wine or non-alcoholic beverage are included in the ticket. The night will also feature door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction, and some games.
All profits will be donated to donated to Alzheimer Society. Lin noted the event raised close to $1,100 last year — despite the pandemic. Her hope is to raise more this time around. “Our challenge this year has been the increase in price of food, leading us to fundraise less off our ticket prices due to high venue prices,” she said.
“Our local walk honouree [from Burnaby] this year will also say a few words about their dementia journey. I’m expecting reconnection, laughter, and learning all wrapped up in one wonderful party,” she added.
