Public input wanted on Burnaby water main up for replacement

The Central Park water main is up for replacement this fall — have your say on the project in a virtual open house or online survey.

The 90-some-year-old Central Park water main is set for replacement at the end of this year, and the regional government Metro Vancouver wants your input on the Imperial Avenue section.

Metro Vancouver will host a virtual open house on Sept. 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

You can also complete a survey until Sept. 14 online.

The project is expected to have an effect on traffic throughout the construction, including full and partial road closures of Imperial Avenue and closures of Palm Avenue and Empress Avenue. Metro Vancouver will notify residents and businesses in advance.

The existing 12-km water main, which transports water from Metro Vancouver's natural reservoir to the city's distribution mains, is reaching the end of its service life, according to the regional government.

The Imperial section is about three and a half kilometres long.

Construction will take place between fall 2022 to late 2025.

For more information on the project, see Metro Vancouver’s website.
