'Tis the time of year for crunchy multi-coloured leaves, sweaters, pumpkins and, yes, spooky szn.
Burnaby residents are being invited to partake in a series of fall-themed activities throughout the month of October at Metropolis at Metrotown to get into the spirit.
B.C.'s largest shopping mall is gearing up to host events for all ages, to which all are free to attend and participate between now and Oct. 31.
According to a release provided to the NOW, the goal is to "embrace all that the season has to offer."
This includes the following:
Marvel at magical displays
- Be inspired by festive fall displays – including a one-of-a-kind piece by local twig artist, The Wizards Maker – located in the Grand Court until Oct. 31.
Attend a pumpkin carving show
- Watch a featured artist showcase their impressive pumpkin carving skills with a live demo on Oct. 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Grand Court.
Watch a pie-eating contest
- Visit the Grand Court on Oct. 21 to watch a live pie-eating contest sponsored by The Pie Hole, one of the Lower Mainland’s best pie shops. The Pie Hole will also be hosting a pop-up, where visitors can purchase fresh, handmade pies to-go.
Get into Halloween spirits
- Visitors of all ages can celebrate Halloween at Metropolis at Metrotown through a range of activities and experiences, including a balloon twister and mascot on Oct. 31 from 2 to 6 p.m., or go trick-or-treating at select retailers throughout the day.
Enter our fall giveaway
- Sunday, Oct. 8, is the last to follow @metropolisatmet on Instagram and share a snap of a fall display, tag a friend, and comment about your favourite fall happening at the centre. One lucky winner will receive a $100 gift card to use at select retailers.
Get moving
- As the days become shorter, bring your exercise routine indoors with free Zumba and cardio classes offered through Fitness at the MET. Classes run until Oct. 26, and drop-ins are welcome.
