Burnaby residents looking to honour those who served in the Canadian Armed Forces have a few options come Remembrance Day next week.

The City of Burnaby and Royal Canadian Legion branches #148 and #83 are hosting two ceremonies on Nov. 11 - one at Confederation Park and the other at Bonsor Park.

Both events include a parade, featuring veterans, Mounties and local dignitaries, to the cenotaphs where the Remembrance ceremonies will take place at 11 a.m.

The North Burnaby procession leaves the Safeway parking lot at 4440 Hastings St. at 10:30 a.m. It will make its way to the cenotaph in Confederation Park at Willingdon Avenue and Penzance Drive, for the official ceremony at 11 a.m.

Mayor Derek Corrigan and Burnaby RCMP Chief Supt. Dave Critchley and Staff Sgt. Maj. John Buis are expected to attend the North Burnaby event.

For residents living south of Highway 1, a parade, which also starts at 10:30 a.m., leaves the Royal Canadian Legion branch #83 at 5289 Grimmer St., making its way to the South Burnaby Cenotaph at Bonsor Park (Imperial Street and Nelson Avenue) for the ceremony at 11 a.m.

There will also be a service at the George Derby Centre, a residential care facility on 16th Avenue and Cumberland Street. While the event is open to the public, it is mainly attended by residents and their family members, staff and dignitaries, including representatives of the Canadian Senate and Veterans Affairs, according to organizer Pam Cole.

The event begins at 10:30 a.m. but guests are welcome to starting at 10 a.m.

Burnaby RCMP officers, including Insp. Michael Labossiere, and Burnaby firefighters are also expected to attend.

Following the service, there will be a free chili lunch and entertainment featuring the Lady Larks, who will perform from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Anyone interested in attending a ceremony in Vancouver should check out the Remembrance Day ceremony sponsored by the Burnaby-based Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre.

The event begins at 10:40 a.m. at the Japanese Canadian War Memorial in Stanley Park. People are invited to see the refurbished cenotaph and attend a reception at the Pavilion at Stanley Park following the ceremony.
