BCIT has begun its major revitalization project on the south side of its Burnaby campus.

Another part of a major transformation at BCIT's Burnaby campus is now underway.

The post-secondary institution says its south campus infrastructure renewal project will enhance public spaces, improve accessibility and create a more vibrant and inclusive campus environment as well as upgrade aging infrastructure.

The phase started involves three of the six separate areas of the project. Construction is expected to run until 2029.

The province is investing $48 million towards the project.

“The south campus infrastructure renewal project is vital to BCIT’s future — creating a sustainable, interconnected community that enhances education, supports staff and faculty, and fosters industry collaboration,” BCIT president Jeff Zabudsky said in a news release.

“We thank the province of British Columbia for investing in this transformative initiative that enables BCIT to continue to deliver on its vision of empowering people, shaping B.C., and inspiring global progress.”

Project features include the design and replacement of campus infrastructure systems, future-proofing for new building locations, an updated electrical network that will support a new BC Hydro 25 kV system, enhancements to the public realm and the daylighting of Guichon Creek.

Other highlights by the school include a restored urban greenway, a campus walkway connecting the Tall Timber Student Housing building to the campus core, bicycle networks and accessibility throughout public areas.
