Three Burnaby residents are among the 37 people who have turned themselves in to police after last month's Stanley Cup riot in downtown Vancouver, according to details released by the Vancouver Police Department on Wednesday.
The integrated riot investigation team has gone through 4,300 email tips, 1,500 video hours, 15,000 images and 3,000 individual video data files already, with more than 400 tasks assigned for follow-up investigation.
Of the 37 people who've turned themselves in during the five weeks after the riot, 30 are male and seven are female. Surrey leads the numbers, with nine people turning themselves in. Vancouver is second with seven and Maple Ridge third, with four people turning themselves in.
Investigators are currently preparing charges against those who have come forward. Investigators are also looking into the conduct of 111 people who are alleged to have committed criminal acts relating to the events of June 15.
Some of the alleged crimes being investigated include participating in a riot, assault, assaulting a peace officer, mischief, breakand-enter, theft, robbery, arson, weapons possession, and possession of stolen property.
The investigative team consists of 50 police officers and civilian experts from around the region.
Anyone with photos or video not yet submitted is asked to make copies of them and burn them to a CD or DVD. If the pictures or videos are stored on a cellphone, investigators are asking people not to delete them.
