Sav Dhaliwal is running for Burnaby city council with the Burnaby Citizens Association:

Sav Dhaliwal was born in India and moved to Toronto more than 40 years ago where he studied computer systems at Humber College. On a visit to see friends in British Columbia, he "immediately fell in love with the natural beauty of the Lower Mainland" and has made Burnaby his home since 1969.

Sav's coaching efforts as a volunteer for his young son Harry's soccer and other sports teams led to his community activism that started him on the road to local politics.

While serving as president of the Burnaby Minor Hockey Association he became involved with the Burnaby parks commission and the development of the Bill Copeland Arena.

Sav's leadership skills grew, as did his commitment to make Burnaby a better place for everyone and he stepped forward in 2002 and was successfully elected to Burnaby city council.

Now 65 and retired from a long and successful professional career in information technology at Telus, Sav has taken on a number of leadership roles with city council and at the local, regional and national levels.

He is seeking re-election as a Burnaby Citizens Association candidate for city council for a fourth term because, as he describes, "I want to do my part in sustaining Burnaby as a city of choice to live and work in. A local government has a major role in shaping neighbourhoods and developing infrastructure that is inviting, safe and pleasant for its residents and supportive of the business community. All this must be accomplished through effectively deploying resources within our means and without limiting the ability of future generations to pursue their own dreams."
