Tri-City residents wanting to stay green for Halloween can drop off their candy wrappers at London Drugs.
The retailer, which has a store at Coquitlam Centre mall, is collecting Halloween snack packaging in a bid to keep the waste out of landfills.
The second annual program is in partnership with Recycle BC.
“Our goal with the Halloween candy wrapper drive is to move as much material up the pollution hierarchy as possible,” said Raman Johal, London Drugs retail operations sustainability specialist, in a news release. “The initiative is also part of our ongoing commitment to diverting waste every day at our stores.”
Other packaging accepted during the campaign includes:
• stand-up and zipper lock pouches like pouches for granola and frozen berries;
• crinkly wrappers and bags like coffee bags or cellophane;
• flexible packaging with plastic seal like packaging for fresh pasta or pre-packaged deli meats;
• non-food protective wrap like bubble wrap or plastic envelopes;
• and net bags used for fruits and vegetables like onions, avocados and lemons.
