Scouts Canada is looking for volunteers in Burnaby to help tackle long waitlists.
Burnaby is currently at the top of the organization's list where the need for volunteers is the greatest. It's also the place where there's more youth interested in the program than volunteers.
Scouts Canada is looking for people to step forward from any background, and no matter what their lived experiences are.
Some of the most popular groups that volunteer include active seniors, new Canadians, parents and students.
“This is an exciting time to get involved in Scouting," Stephen Loney, volunteer national commissioner for Scouts Canada, said in a news release.
"We have a revitalized team, an audacious mandate and thousands of youths in Canada waiting to start their Scouting adventures. Our recent survey has shown that people in Canada are feeling overwhelmed and looking for tangible ways to give back to their communities and get involved in positive programs like Scouts to make a difference.
"Scouts does all of that while allowing volunteers to make a real and positive impact in the lives of young people from coast to coast."
Scouts Canada says it has a goal of supporting 50,000 young people by 2025.
“Volunteering is more than just a commitment; it’s a collection of impactful moments that resonate with purpose and create lasting change, personal growth, community connection, positive influence on youth and society, career advancement, and more,” Loney added.
Other B.C. cities needing volunteers include Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Coquitlam, Kamloops, Prince George, Richmond, Surrey, Squamish, Maple Ridge, Langley, Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Anmore, Nanaimo and Delta.
