Another Burnaby long-term care facility has been hit by a COVID-19 outbreak.
Fraser Health said today (Nov. 10), there have been 10 cases confirmed to date at the facility involving six residents and four staff members.
The facility is owned and operated by George Derby Care Society.
The health authority says they have proactively implemented the following measures:
- Staffing levels are being supported to maintain resident care
- Social visits are restricted in the affected areas of the facility. Essential visits can continue
- Staff and residents movement in the affected areas of the facility has been modified to minimize exposure to others
- Cleaning and infection control measures have been further enhanced
- Residents, families and staff are being notified
- Twice a day screening of all staff and residents is taking place
- Additional testing and screening is in place to support monitoring of disease control
"During this time, Fraser Health has additional presence at the sites to take any further actions required and support the facility," a statement said.
"This includes dedicated people to address quality, answer questions from staff, residents and family, and provide active checks of symptoms with staff and residents."
Last November, the George Derby Centre had a massive, tragic outbreak with 109 cases confirmed and 36 lives lost.
On Monday (Nov. 8), Fraser Health also declared an outbreak at Burnaby Hospital after evidence was found of transmission in a medicine unit.
Two patients have tested positive in the unit, which has been temporarily closed to admissions.
The emergency department at the hospital remains open and no other areas in the hospital have been affected.
