SFU golfer Kassie Muanyam has been selected as SFU's nominee for the 2024 NCAA Woman of the Year award.

After an excellent 2023-24 season, Kassie Muanyam of Simon Fraser University's (SFU) women's golf team has been nominated for a prestigious award.

Muanyam was selected as one of 11 female student-athletes from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) who are up for the 2024 NCAA Woman of the Year award.

She helped lead the Burnaby-based Red Leafs to its second-straight GNAC women's title and ranked fifth overall in the GNAC scoring average with 76.5 strokes per round.

The fifth-year golfer also won her first individual title during last season, winning the woman's tournament at the Sonoma State Spring Invite from April 8 to 9 at Foxtail Golf Club.

Muanyam won by one stroke, finishing with a score of 74-77-151.

Each school in the conference nominates a representative, which the GNAC will review and announce the conference's overall nominations for the award.

The GNAC nominations are then reviewed by the selection committee which will choose 10 finalists from each of the NCAA's three divisions.

The winner will be revealed at the NCAA Convention in January.

The award was established in 1991 and recognizes female-athletes that earned their undergraduate degree and made noticeable contributions in their community, athletics and academics.
