Shaw TV will continue broadcasting Burnaby council meetings live on channel four on Monday nights, according to Coun. Dan Johnston.
Johnston received an email from City of Burnaby staff stating that Shaw had decided against cancelling the live coverage, he said.
Staff at the City of New Westminster confirmed with the Royal City Record that live coverage would continue there, as well.
Staff at Shaw Cable also confirmed the live broadcasting would continue but did not have time to find someone to comment to the issue before press time.
Burnaby Coun. Nick Volkow mentioned at the Sept. 10 council meeting that Shaw planned to cancel live coverage of the meetings.
Volkow urged viewers to write the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission regarding the cancellation.
Burnaby council meetings air live on Monday nights at 7 p.m., and air again on Saturday mornings at 9 a.m.
Council passed a resolution at the meeting to send a letter to the CRTC regarding the cancellation.
Burnaby council meeting webcasts can also be viewed live at Burnaby.ca. The link is in the middle of the page, below job openings.
