Someone vandalized a touching Burnaby tribute to Ukraine

Message includes debunked Russian claim.

A lovely mural telling people to “stand with Ukraine” that had been painted recently in Burnaby has been vandalized with misinformation.

The mural had been painted at a construction site on Wilson Avenue in the Metrotown area.

Someone has since altered the mural (see the before and after photos above) that includes the word “Nazis” in relation to Ukraine, which has been invaded by Russia.

The reference relates to a claim spread by Russia that one of the reasons why it had invaded Ukraine was to stop “Nazis” in the country. The claim has been widely discredited as most of the world has stood behind Ukraine.

Burnaby RCMP were not formally contacted but sent officers to the scene, said a police statement. The mural artist was on scene covering up the message and police are now reviewing video near the scene for a possible suspect.
