Stay busy on weekend

It's the last weekend of 2012, so if there's something you needed or wanted to accomplish before 2013, you're running out of time.

It's the last weekend of 2012, so if there's something you needed or wanted to accomplish before 2013, you're running out of time. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend, and this week, there's a good mix of sports to pique your interest.

1 Get cheering for the SFU Clan men's hockey team as they host the Great Northwest Showcase on Friday, Dec. 28 and Saturday, Dec. 29 at the Bill Copeland Arena at 3676 Kensington Ave.

The Clan, along with the UBC Thunderbirds, are welcoming the Arizona State Sun Devils and Oklahoma Sooners hockey teams, with doubleheaders on both days, at 4 p.m. and 7: 15 p.m. SFU will be playing the late games on both days.

For more info, go to www. sfuhockey.com. Tickets are available at the door.

2 Get watching the 50th annual Burnaby Minor Hockey Association Bantam AAA Christmas tournament, which started Dec. 27 and runs until Dec. 31 at both

the Burnaby Lake Arena and the Bill Copeland Arena. With 16 teams coming from as far as Alaska, Arizona, the Okanagan and Prince George, the tourney will end with medal games on Dec. 31 at 9 a.m. and noon. The closing ceremonies go at 2: 30 p.m. The host Burnaby Bulldogs are in the Smith division, along with the Alaska Jr. Aces, Nanaimo Clippers and Surrey Thunder.

3 Get into cycling for the Superior Glass 4 Day cycling event at the Burnaby velodrome, which started Dec. 27 and runs until Dec. 30. Highlighting the races will be a battle of the sexes on the final night, pitting Olympic bronze medallist Gillian Carleton and the Canadian women's pursuit team, including velo-drome products Stephanie Roorda and Laura Brown, against Tour de France stage winner Tyler Farrar in a three-kilometre matchup. Racing starts off at 6: 30 p.m. and continues until 11 p.m. each night. On Saturday, Dec. 29, spectators will be entertained by Columbia, one of Vancouver's hottest stadium rock bands. Tickets are available at the door and are $5 per day.

4 Get skating on Friday, Dec. 28 for the Loonie Skate at Kensington Arena at 6159 Curtis St. from noon to 3 p.m. If you can't make that one, there's also a regular public skate at Kensington on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. If Sunday is your free day, there's another Loonie Skate at Bill Copeland at 3676 Kensington Ave. from 2 to 5 p.m. For more info, call the 24hour hotline at 604-298-0533.

5 Get illuminated by the holiday displays at the Burnaby Village Museum. The family-friendly light displays are just part of the fun and frivolity at the museum, which is open from noon to 9 p.m. until Friday, Jan. 4. There's also a scavenger hunt and great food from the Ice Cream Parlour restaurant. For more info, go to www. burnabyvillagemuseum.ca.
