What makes Burnaby neighbourhoods happy?
A Canadian tech-enabled real estate brokerage firm decided to find the answer in communities throughout Metro Vancouver with Burnaby showing up in numerous categories.
Properly's Happiness Index looks into features Metro Vancouver residents actively seek out when picking a new neighbourhood to call home.
The report, released annually, also uncovers what it believes to be the happiest neighbourhoods based on proximity to some sought-after features.
Burnaby made the top five in three of the listed categories.
The data shows Burnaby's Windsor area as the second happiest neighbourhood in the region among insatiable foodies, Burnaby Heights the fourth happiest for recreation and Douglas-Gilpin as second for community connection.
Burnaby didn't place in the top five for proximity to outdoor spaces, or for nearby childcare and schools.
World Happiness Report 2022
In March, the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, the Centre for Sustainable Development at Columbia University and partners of the World Happiness Report 2022 released its annual report.
The report uses global survey data to assess how people evaluate their own lives in more than 150 countries around the world.
In the World Happiness report 2022, Canada ranked in 15th place.
Tops on the list was Finland, followed by Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden, Norway, Israel, New Zealand, Austria, Australia, Ireland and Germany.
Rankings on the World Happiness Report are based on how survey respondents assess their own lives based on six factors: GDP per capita; social support; healthy life expectancy; freedom; generosity; and corruption.
