A man was taken to hospital after being assaulted during a home invasion early Sunday morning.

Police were called to the area of Boundary Road and Burke Street at about 2:45 a.m. for reports someone had been assaulted with a weapon inside a home, according to an emailed statement from Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj.

He said multiple suspects had entered the residence and assaulted one of the occupants.

One male victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the incident was targeted, according to Kalanj.

"The investigation is in its early stages and is ongoing," he said.
