Burnaby's Hindu temple is hosting its annual picnic this weekend, and people of all faiths are invited to celebrate and enjoy a free vegetarian lunch.

The picnic is Sunday, July 31, from 10: 30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Burnaby Fraser Foreshore Park, at 4600 Byrne Rd.

"We invite all communities to come and join the picnic. It's like a social gathering," said Pandit Sharad Chandra, the temple's priest. About 700 to 800 people usually show up, he added.

There will be tents set up, and a chance for people to sit and chant a holy prayer before breaking for a free lunch after noon. There will also be entertainment, singing, games, sporting events, face painting and prizes.
