These two Burnaby intersections are among Metro Vancouver's most dangerous

There were more than 75,000 Lower Mainland intersection crashes in 2023.

Thousands of crashes were recorded in Burnaby during 2023, according to ICBC data.

ICBC data shows Burnaby was host to two of the worst locations for intersection crashes in 2023. 

Highway 1 west at Willingdon Avenue and Grandview Highway, including the on and offramps, was ranked the fourth most dangerous with 251 recorded incidents. 

The intersection of Boundary Road and Grandview Highway, including the Grandview onramp, was ninth on ICBC's top 10 list totalling 211 crashes. 

The two intersections accounted for 462 total accidents, including those that were fatal. 

The Lower Mainland as a whole saw 77,961 crashes last year, an increase of 2,392 accidents over the 75,569 ICBC reported in 2022. 

There was a decrease of injuries in 2023 with 39,807 reported compared to 40,814 the year prior. 

The top 10 Lower Mainland intersections that saw crashes last year were as follows:

  2. Langley: 264 Street and 264 Street Offramp and 264 Street Onramp and 56 Avenue and 56 Avenue Offramp and 56 Avenue Onramp and Trans-Canada Highway and Turning Lane - 440 crashes
  3. Vancouver: Knight Street and Knight Street Bridge and SE Marine Drive and SE Marine Drive Offramp and SE Marine Drive Onramp and Bus Ramp - 292 crashes
  4. Coquitlam and New Westminster: Brunette Avenue and Brunette Avenue Offramp and Brunette Onramp and Trans-Canada Highway - 277 crashes
  5. Burnaby: Grandview Highway and Grandview Highway Onramp and Trans-Canada Highway and Trans-Canada Highway Onramp and Willingdon Avenue and Willingdon Avenue Offramp and Emergency Lane - 251 crashes
  6. Langley: 200 Street and 200 Street Offramp and 88 Avenue and 88 Avenue Onramp and Highway 1 Onramp and Trans-Canada Highway - 248 crashes
  7. Langley: 232 Street and 232 Street Offramp and 232 Street Onramp and 72 Avenue and 72 Avenue Offramp and Trans-Canada Highway - 231 crashes
  8.
