The silver anniversary for a Burnaby hotel has included a major milestone for a critical fundraiser.
Hilton Vancouver Metrotown's lobby will soon feature nearly a dozen decorated displays as part of its annual Festival of Trees, officially lighting up for the public to view on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
The campaign also aims to raise awareness to children facing hunger in the community and families struggling to provide this holiday season.
Backpack Buddies, partner for the Festival of Trees for a consecutive year, recently received $6,000 during Hilton Vancouver Metrotown's 25th anniversary celebration.
In two years, the hotel has now raised $10,000 for the nonprofit thanks to the donations from festival-participating organizations.
"Past years have witnessed our contributions to Burnaby Family Life and Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon, underscoring our unwavering dedication to positively impact the lives of those in need," Hilton Vancouver Metrotown spokesperson Virna Yu explained.
"It's a meaningful endeavour to make Christmas bright for thousands! The community's invaluable time and support during this event will play a pivotal role in creating a lasting impact on the lives of children grappling with hunger during the holiday season."
Backpack Buddies combats weekend hunger, according to a news release, by conscientiously packing backpacks every Friday with nutritious meals and snacks for students facing food insecurity.
The nonprofit reaches more than 5,300 students across B.C., including those in Burnaby's school district (SD41).
The Festival of Trees will be on display until Jan. 3, 2025, at Hilton Vancouver Metrotown — located at 6083 McKay Ave.
