More housing is under construction in Burnaby for families, seniors and people with disabilities in Burnaby.
Twenty-five new homes in a three-storey building will include studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom homes.
Approximately half the units will be available at rates geared to tenants’ income, 20% will be rented at shelter rates to seniors and families on income assistance and 30% will be rented at market-average rates, according to city staff.
Housing will include three studio, 11 one-bedroom, eight two-bedroom and three three-bedroom units. Sixteen of the units will be adaptable for use by a disabled tenant.
The project is collaborative between the federal and provincial governments, City of Burnaby and the New Vista Society.
The housing project, located at 7898 18th Ave., is within walking distance to Edmonds Community Centre, Bryne Creek Ravine Park, Edmonds Skytrain Station and other amenities.
"These homes will give families, seniors and people with disabilities a safe and secure place they can afford - something that everyone deserves," Attorney General and Minister Responsible for Housing David Eby said in a news release.
"This project is another example of how we're working with other levels of government and community partners to deliver thousands of affordable homes in communities throughout the province."

New Vista Society will be the operator of the building, currently expected to open in the fall of 2022.
"It's great to see this project moving forward as our government continues to invest in the affordable housing people need," Burnaby-Edwards MLA Raj Chouhan added.
"The mix of affordable rentals will help benefit a range of people in the community."
The government says the project is part of The Community Housing Fund, a 10-year, $7-billion housing plan, with 8,800 of the same homes already opened, under construction or in development.
"This project will provide quality affordable rental housing in the heart of the Edmonds neighbourhood," Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley explained.
"City of Burnaby is actively seeking partnerships to build these kinds of projects and ensure everyone in our community can find the home they need at a price they can afford."
