Two people have died and another was injured from an early morning crash in Burnaby Saturday morning, Dec. 21.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj told the NOW police received a report of a collision involving two cars at Boundary Road and Forest Street just before 5 a.m.
Kalanj said one vehicle was travelling west on Forest Street when it was t-boned by a vehicle driving north on Boundary Road.
"Life saving measures were attempted on the occupants of the vehicle that was struck, however, they have both been pronounced deceased," Kalanj explained.
"The driver of the other vehicle has been transported to the hospital for treatment of what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries."
Burnaby RCMP's Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) has taken over the investigation and a cause for the collision is still being determined.
"Road safety is a responsibility that belongs to everyone that shares the road. In the dark and wet months of winter, visibility is low and road conditions are not ideal. In the past 2 weeks alone, we have had three significant motor vehicle collisions that have resulted in life altering injuries and/or death," Burnaby RCMP Officer in Charge Chief Superintendent Graham de la Gorgendiere said in a news release.
"Our road safety unit has also taken a significant number of impaired drivers off the road. If we all do our part by slowing down and driving with care we all should get home safely."
Police are asking anyone with dash cam footage in the area of Boundary Road and Forest Street between 4:30 and 5 a.m. to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 and quote file number 2024-44092.
