The victim of Wednesday’s fatal shooting near Brentwood Town Centre is someone known to police, say investigators.

Police have identified the victim as 43-year-old Igor Bradaric.

Bradaric was found by Burnaby RCMP in the 4600 block of Midlawn Drive off of Willingdon Avenue near Fairlawn Drive around 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 12, after neighbours reported hearing shots fired. Emergency personnel attempted to treat him, but he died at the scene, according to a media release from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

Investigators believe Bradaric’s shooting was targeted, but they couldn’t say why.

“He is known to police, and (investigators) are pursing potential angles as far as that goes,” Sgt. Stephanie Ashton, spokesperson for the homicide team, told the NOW.

A grey 2005 Audi station wagon was seen leaving the area around the time of the shooting. A vehicle matching the description provided by witnesses, which had an out-of-province licence plate, was recovered a short while later in Surrey. Investigators are now trying to determine if the vehicle is the same vehicle seen near the Burnaby crime scene, Ashton said.

“What we’re looking at is that timeline, and if it is, in fact, that vehicle that was recovered in Surrey. Hopefully they’ll be able to determine, in their investigation, over the next few days,” she added.

If investigators confirm the vehicle recovered in Surrey is the one seen at the crime scene in Burnaby, then they can start pulling surveillance footage to piece together where the vehicle was in the Lower Mainland during the days leading up to the shooting, Ashton said.

“If it is the same vehicle, then did someone see the vehicle being left there?” she said.

Ashton wasn’t able to provide any information on a suspect or suspects at this time.
