Official results show there was a large drop in voter turnout for Burnaby's 2022 municipal election.
The city said only 19.71 per cent of registered voters cast a ballot — that's 32,286 out of 163,076 eligible residents.
It's roughly a 12 per cent drop compared to 2018's voter turnout, which saw 49,972 ballots cast (32 per cent) and Mayor Mike Hurley won his first term in office.
Hurley was acclaimed this year when no challengers stepped forward by the Sept. 9 nomination deadline.
On Saturday (Oct. 15), Burnaby voted three new faces at the council table after former long-time councillors Dan Johnston and Colleen Jordan announced they would not seek re-election.
Advance voting totals also dropped in 2022 compared to four years prior.
In 2018, 9,683 advance ballots were cast compared to 9,225 this year — a dip of 4.7 per cent.
