Police were called to a Trans Mountain worksite in Burnaby yesterday for reports of two dinosaur-costumed protesters playing badminton inside the construction fence.
Two women with T-rex against TMX scaled a fence at a worksite near an industrial complex in 8600-block Commerce Court, according to the group, which opposes the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.
Video posted by the protesters shows the pair were inside the fence hitting a birdie back and forth with badminton racquets before climbing back out of the worksite.
Mounties were waiting on the other side of the fence, and the video shows the women being taken into custody.
Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj confirmed officers had responded to a report of approximately six demonstrators in the area shortly after 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
He said two women were arrested and released on paperwork to attend court at a later date.
“At this time, the two individuals are not facing criminal contempt charges,” he added. “However, mischief charges will be forwarded for both.”
Burnaby RCMP confirmed the individuals involved had been wearing dinosaur outfits.
