While it might be getting chillier outside, there are still plenty of ways — indoors and outdoors — to celebrate the new year on the lunar calendar. Then you can experience live dance at a ballet showcase at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.
Year of the Snake Celebration on the Heights
Celebrate Lunar New Year in Burnaby Heights.
Lion dancers will kick off at Heights Fountain Square and move to the west along Hastings towards Boundary Road, then east towards Gamma Avenue.

Chef Series Cooking Show and Dumpling Eating Contest for Lunar New Year
Celebrate the Year of the Snake and learn all about traditional cooking from skilled local chefs at Metrotown mall this weekend.
Chefs Haan Palcu-Chang and Chanthy Yen will share dishes representing their heritage and culinary philosophy.
You can also test your mettle at a dumpling eating contest at Metrotown this Sunday at 1 p.m.

Cecchetti Classical Ballet Awards
It’s the 37th Cecchetti Classical Ballet Awards at the Shadbolt Centre for the arts this weekend.
The performance will showcase dedicated young dancers along with local guest artists from Coastal City Ballet.
When: Sunday, Feb. 2, doors open at 3 p.m.; showtime at 3:30 p.m.
