We're already through the first two months of 2013, and the first weekend of March means spring can't be far away. It's time to get out and enjoy some new things to do in Burnaby.

We're already through the first two months of 2013, and the first weekend of March means spring can't be far away. It's time to get out and enjoy some new things to do in Burnaby. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend, and this week, there's a good mix of activities in the city.

1 Get dreaming at Ron Sangha's solo show at the Deer Lake Art Gallery. Dreaming of the Present is Sangha's exploration of new cultures through camera, digital tablet and pen. The show finishes its run on Saturday. The gallery is located at 6584 Deer Lake Ave. For more information, call 604-298-7322 or email info@burnaby artscouncil.org.

2 Get listening to the Royal Conservatory of Music alumni's annual scholarship recital on Saturday at 7: 30 p.m. in room 210 of the Shadbolt Centre at 6450 Deer Lake Ave. Come enjoy an evening that includes pianists, cellists and singers. Tickets are available at the door and are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. There will be a reception to follow.

3 Get the kids out to Franklin and Friends and Busytown's Huckle Cat and Lowly Worm at Brentwood Town Centre on both Saturday and Sunday. These family-friendly shows are being run in association with Brentwood Town Centre's creative story project that gives children the opportunity to practise their literary skills. Children are invited to craft a short story or drawing that describes an imaginative adventure with their favourite Franklin or Busytown characters. On March 2, the Franklin & Friends Musical Playdate is at 11 a.m. and the Lowly Worm & Huckle Cat's Musical Playdate is at 1 p.m. On Sunday, March 3, the Franklin & Friends Musical Playdate is at noon and the Lowly orm & Huckle Cat's Musical laydate is at 2 p.m. For more nformation, go to www.brent oodtowncentre.com.

4 Get "famous" with St. Thomas More Collegiate's presentation of Fame: The Musical, on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts. This musical follows a group of students at New York City's High School for the Performing Arts, is set in the 1980s and audience members are encouraged to come dresses in their best 1980s gear. Tickets are $14 and available by calling 604-205-3000.

5 Get shopping for a good cause at Second Street Community School's garage sale, running from 3 to 7 p.m. on March 1 in the school's gym at 7502 Second St. Table rental proceeds go to the Burnaby Wildlife Rescue Association.
